It is official that Garbine Muguruza is the new WTA No. 1.
The twenty three-year-old becomes the twenty fourth woman overall to hold the No.1 ranking & the 2nd player representing Spain to achieve this historic milestone since computer based rankings were introduced in the year 1975. 4-time Grand Slam singles champion Sánchez Vicario spent twelve non-consecutive weeks as WTA singles No.1 in 1995 while Conchita Martínez – who was in charge of coaching during Muguruza’s run to the 2017 Wimbledon title & lifted the Venus Rosewater Dish herself in 1994 – peaked at No. two in the rankings in 1995.
